Sanford Biggers
Sanford Biggers (1970- ) is an American visual artist based in Harlem, New York. Biggers' work incorporates found objects, vintage fabrics, and historical artifacts, adding layers of meaning and symbolism to his creations. Additionally, he works in print, film, and sculpture. He frequently repurposes these materials to challenge conventional narratives and provide new perspectives on complex issues. Always topical, he focuses on contemporary social, political, and racial discourse. His references can be as varied as Underground Railroad to police brutality.  Biggers received a BA from Morehouse College and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He attended Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 1998.
